DIY Yarn Balls for Cats

Inspired by Caturday Crime (A Cat Rescue Mystery) by Amanda Flower

DIY Yarn Ball Materials and Instructions

This DIY yarn ball takes just a few minutes to make, but it can provide your cat with hours of playtime. As with any cat toy, you should supervise your pet while they play to make sure they don't eat the yarn.

Materials

  • Plastic wiffle ball

  • Yarn

  • Scissors

  • Catnip (optional)

Instructions

Step One

Tie one end of the yarn to the wiffle ball using one of the holes in the ball. Create a tight knot.

Step Two

Wrap the yarn around the ball over and over again. Go in one direction and then the other until the ball is almost covered.

Step Three

Use an unexposed hole to put some dried catnip into the ball before the ball is entirely wrapped in yarn.

Step Four

Continue wrapping the yarn around the ball until the entire ball is covered. Then, tuck in the end of the yarn securely so that it doesn’t come unraveled.

The DIY Yarn Ball project was inspired by the cozy mystery Caturday Crime, the first book in the Cat Rescue Mystery by Amanda Flower.

The amateur sleuth is Kinley Remington, a twenty-something bank worker stuck in a dull job with an unpleasant boss. Things go from bad to worse when Kinley gets fired for leaving eccentric heiress Miss Penelope alone in the vault.

When a valuable diamond necklace goes missing from the vault and Miss Penelope is found murdered, Kinley becomes the prime suspect and must figure out who killed Miss Penelope while taking care of all the cats the heiress left behind.
