Plot Overview
It’s spring in Normal, Kentucky. Mae is preparing for Normal’s very first Climb the Cliffs Festival. There’s a hike, a bluegrass concert, an amateur climbing contest, and all kinds of events for climbing enthusiasts.
While hiking the Cascades Trail with an old friend (Violet Rhinehammer from the Holiday Cozy Mystery Series, a spin-off of the Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Series), Mae finds the crumpled body of a climber at the bottom of a cliff. It soon becomes clear that his fall was no accident. Mae, Violet, and the Laundy Club Ladies investigate.

Cliffs, Clues, and Conspiracies is a fun mystery from author Tonya Kappes. She is so good at writing these characters and making you feel like you’re coming home to Normal, Kentucky as soon as you pick up the book. A lot of that feeling is because of Mae’s friend group, the Laundry Club Ladies.
Dottie, Abby, Queenie, and Betts make every adventure feel like a girls’ mystery night out. They have fun personalities and contribute to some real laugh-out-loud moments.
It was nice seeing Violet Rhinehammer back in Normal for a visit. The other extra out-of-towners also added interesting flair to the story and made the mystery a real puzzle.
Cliffs, Clues, and Conspiracies is part of the Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery Series, but you don’t necessarily need to read the whole series to know what’s happening in this book. Each book is written as a stand-alone, so you can grab any book in the series and read a mystery with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
I enjoyed reading Cliffs, Clues, and Conspiracies and look forward to more books in this series. I am also looking forward to seeing the books brought to life on TV. The Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery Series is under development for a Hallmark TV show!
