2.) Kensington Books recently confirmed the cancellation of Joanne Fluke’s PUMPKIN CHIFFON PIE MURDER, book 30 in the Hannah Swensen Mystery Series. They did not provide a reason for the cancellation. 3.) THE EX-GIRLFRIEND MURDER CLUB film rights were recently sold to Wendi McLendon-Covey, Gladys Gonzalez, and Sophia Lucchesi at Strong Beach Productions. The book’s author, Gloria Chao, will be adapting the story. 4.) The October Cozy Mystery Freebie Fair is currently taking place on Book Funnel and runs until the end of the month. The fair features more than 50 free cozy mystery ebooks to download. 5.) Submissions are open for the 2026 Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America First Crime Novel Competition until 11:59 pm ET on December 14th, 2025. This contest is open to any writer, regardless of nationality, aged 18 or older, who has never written a published novel (in any genre). The submitted mystery manuscript must be at least 60,000 words and should feature a serious crime or crimes at the heart of the story.

Murder, They Wrote: A Mystery Author ShowcaseMurder, They Wrote: A Mystery Author Showcase will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm ET. This annual mystery author extravaganza features Sisters in Crime Chessie Chapter authors who’ve had something new published during the year. Participating authors for the 2025 event include Donna Andrews, Kathryn Prater Bomey, Maya Corrigan, Barb Goffman, James V. Irving, Kirlagh James, EA Mayes, Melinda Mullet, Jacque Rosman, Frances Schoonmaker, Daphne Silver, Misty Simon, Shannon Taft, Cathy Wiley, and Kristopher Zgorski. They will be talking about their new crime/mystery books and short stories. You can attend in person or watch via Zoom. The in-person event is being held at Howard County Library’s Charles E. Miller Branch & Historical Center, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City MD 21042. The in-person event will be in the Ellicott/Patapsco meeting rooms right off the lobby. (Go early to shop for books.) Registration is not required, but it is encouraged so the library sets out enough chairs and makes enough handouts. Call the library at 410-313-1950 with questions. The event will be live-streamed over Zoom and should end by 2:30. You can register until the event begins. 2025 New England Crime BakeRegistration is open for New England Crime Bake, a premier annual conference for crime writers at all career stages, agents, editors, and fans of crime writing. New England Crime Bake offers a welcoming and "cozy" environment for networking, skill-building, and inspiration across all crime writing subgenres, including mystery, thriller, suspense, YA, historical, and true crime. The conference takes place November 7-9, 2025. The in-person conference is at the Dedham Holiday Inn in Dedham, Massachusetts. An online conference with interviews and workshops is also available.
